Color and clarity are not abstract scores. They are shorthand for how a stone presents, what to inspect, and where your budget is working hardest.
Color scale
D → ZThe standard color scale moves from colorless D toward increasing warmth at Z. IDAN’s sourcing brief stays in D/E/F because we want the diamond to start with the cleanest color foundation.
| Range | What it means | IDAN’s read |
|---|
| D–F | ColorlessThe least visible body color on the standard D-to-Z scale. | IDAN preferred |
| G–J | Near colorlessOften subtle, but the setting, shape, and lighting matter. | Compare carefully |
| K–Z | Increasing warmthMore visible yellow or brown presence as the scale moves toward Z. | Ask for context |
Clarity scale
FL → I3Clarity describes internal inclusions and external blemishes, assessed under standardized conditions. IDAN prefers VS1, VVS2, and VVS1 to keep the brief premium without automatically paying for the very top label.
| Range | What it means | IDAN’s read |
|---|
| FL–IF | Flawless / Internally FlawlessNo or almost no visible characteristics under 10× magnification. | Exceptional |
| VVS1–VS1 | Very, very slightly to very slightly includedA premium clarity lane selected for a clean-looking stone and disciplined value. | IDAN preferred |
| VS2–I3 | Visible characteristics varyThe report matters, but location, size, and visibility of characteristics matter too. | Compare the actual stone |
IDAN preferredWe strive to source the highest-quality visual profile for the lowest sensible price, not simply the most expensive grade on the report.
